No, but solar-optimised charging does need a Sungrow energy meter. The charger works as a standard AC charger on any home. The part that makes it worth pairing with a Sungrow system is solar optimisation, which requires a Sungrow energy meter so the charger can see what the house is exporting. Without the meter you have a good 32A charger; with it you have one that follows your solar. The meter is quoted separately where you do not already have one.
Which power rating suits my home?
7kW on single phase, 11kW or 22kW on three phase. Your supply decides this, not your car. Most Perth homes are single phase, which puts you at 7kW and roughly 40km of range per hour. That is an overnight charge for almost any commute. The 11kW and 22kW options only make sense where three-phase power already exists, and specifications are in the [Sungrow AC charger datasheet](/media/2023/06/Sungrow-AC011E-01-EV-Charger-_datasheet.pdf).
What warranty applies?
3 years on the unit, and 3 years on installation and service when we install it. That is a year longer than the Goodwe HCA, the Wallbox Pulsar Plus and the Tesla Wall Connector carry. Monitoring configuration and network integration are included with installation, and [PSW Life Support](/psw-life-support) covers the period after commissioning.
Can I add it to an existing Sungrow solar and battery system?
Yes. It is designed to sit in the same ecosystem. It pairs with the SH-RS and SH-RT hybrid inverters and the [SBR HV battery](/product/sungrow-battery-sbr) under one monitoring platform, iSolarCloud. Charging the car from stored battery energy rather than surplus solar is a configuration decision worth thinking through, since a battery cycle spent on the car is one not spent on the evening peak. We set the priorities at commissioning and they can be changed later.
