Sungrow SBR HV solar battery

Sungrow hybrids only: the SH5.0RS, SH5.0RT and SH10RT. This is a DC coupled battery, so it connects on the DC side of a compatible Sungrow hybrid inverter rather than sitting independently on the switchboard. If you have a Sungrow string inverter that is not a hybrid, it will not accept this battery, and the honest answer is that you are looking at either an inverter change or an AC coupled battery instead. We check the model on your existing system before quoting.

More than bolting a box to the wall, and the 1m rule is the catch. Our installed price assumes the battery goes within 1m of an existing compatible Sungrow inverter, and that a Sungrow energy meter is fitted. If the inverter is in the garage and the only sensible battery location is outside on the other wall, that is extended cabling and it is quoted separately. Backup power, switchboard modification and travel outside our installation zone are also itemised. It builds in 3.2kWh steps, from 9.6kWh to 19.2kWh. Sizing follows evening and overnight consumption, not system size or ambition. A three-bedroom home on single phase with modest night use is well served by 9.6kWh. A five-bedroom home with ducted aircon running past sunset will flatten that before midnight. We size from your actual interval data where Synergy can supply it, rather than from a rule of thumb, which is the difference between a battery that covers your evening and one that runs out at 10pm.

Both WA schemes apply, and yes, usable capacity is what gets paid. The SBR HV is rated at 100% depth of discharge, so its nominal and usable figures line up. That matters because the WA Residential Battery Scheme pays $130 per usable kWh for Synergy customers up to $1,300, and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program creates certificates on usable capacity. A battery quoted at nominal capacity with a 90% usable limit earns less than its brochure number suggests. Installation and service cover runs for 10 years alongside it when we do the work, and monitoring configuration and network integration are part of the install rather than something left for you to sort out afterwards.
