How much of the Growatt ARK XH can I actually use?

90% of it. The depth of discharge is 90%, not 100%. This is the specification most worth understanding on this product. A 10kWh ARK XH gives you about 9kWh usable, and both rebate schemes pay on usable capacity rather than the nominal number: the WA Residential Battery Scheme at $130 per usable kWh for Synergy customers, and the federal program creating certificates on usable kWh. It is not a fault, and plenty of good batteries sit at 90%. It does mean that comparing this against a 100% depth-of-discharge battery on nominal capacity alone will mislead you by roughly a tenth.

Which inverter do I need?

A Growatt MIN XH hybrid. This battery does not work with anything else. That is a narrower compatibility list than most batteries on this site, and it is the first thing to check. If you have a Growatt string inverter rather than the MIN XH hybrid, the battery will not connect without an inverter change, and a Growatt energy meter is also required. Both are quoted separately if you need them. Where a Growatt inverter is already on the wall and it is the right model, this is one of the more affordable ways into storage.

How small can I start?

2.5kWh, in 2.5kWh increments up to 15kWh. The 2.5kWh unit ships without a battery management system, so a working configuration starts at 5kWh. Fine-grained steps suit a household that wants to cover the evening peak without paying for capacity that sits idle overnight. Bear the 90% usable figure in mind when you size: a 10kWh configuration covers about 9kWh of real evening load.

What does the installed price cover?

Installation within 1m of an existing compatible Growatt inverter, plus monitoring setup. A Growatt energy meter is required and quoted if you do not have one. Backup power, travel outside our installation zone, and delivery are itemised where they apply, and the full list is in [additional installation costs](/additional-installation-costs). Monitoring runs through Growatt ShineServer and the network integration is done at commissioning, with [PSW Life Support](/psw-life-support) covering the years after.
