Tesla Powerwall 3

Two, and they stack. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes its discount off the installed price up front through the STC mechanism. The WA Residential Battery Scheme then adds $130 per usable kWh for Synergy customers on the main grid, capped at $1,300. At 13.5kWh the Powerwall is past that cap, so it draws the maximum. Joining an approved virtual power plant is a condition of the WA rebate rather than an optional extra. No. Powerwall 3 has three solar inputs and takes the inverter's place. It accepts up to 20kW of panels across those inputs and converts DC to AC itself, which is the main structural difference from Powerwall 2. On a new install that removes a box from the wall and a warranty from the paperwork. On a retrofit it can mean the inverter you already own becomes redundant, so the sensible comparison is against [Powerwall 2](/product/tesla-powerwall-2), which is AC coupled and leaves an existing inverter in place. The house runs on the battery, provided backup was designed in. Backup is not automatic. It needs the Gateway and a switchboard arrangement that separates the circuits you want to keep alive, and on many Perth homes that means switchboard work. Whole-home backup is possible; essential-circuits backup is cheaper and covers the fridge, lights and power points that matter at 9pm in a storm. With limitations you should understand before you sign. Powerwall 3 is a single-phase unit. On a three-phase home it can be installed, but backup and load behaviour do not work the way people assume, and a single Powerwall cannot back up all three phases. This is one of the more common misunderstandings we correct at quote stage. If your home is three-phase and whole-home backup matters to you, say so early, because it may point at a different product entirely.

It manages its own temperature, and there is a documented heat mode. Perth rarely tests this, but hills and southern installs do get cold enough to matter for charge acceptance.
