PSW Explains

Closed 2023 Tesla Powerwall $750 rebate offer

The Powerwall offer has closed, and its old prices have been removed. To compare battery quotes, divide the total installed cost by usable storage capacity.

Tesla PowerWall Rebate Perth WA 2023
In this article

This offer closed on 31 December 2023 and the prices that were on this page are three years out of date. It is kept as a record of what the promotion was, and because the way it worked out the cost is still the right way to compare any battery quote. Do not read a current price into anything below, because there are none.

In short

  • Closed. A $750 Tesla rebate applied to Powerwalls installed between 11 August and 31 December 2023, claimed by January 2024. PSW matched it, making $1,500 off.
  • The product it applied to was Powerwall 2, which is now legacy. Powerwall 3 replaced it.
  • Every dollar figure this page used to carry has been removed rather than left to mislead. For a current price, ask for one.
  • For the Tesla rebate that came later, see the Powerwall 3 rebate — and check its dates too, because it has its own window.

The part still worth keeping: cost per kilowatt-hour

The one durable idea on this page is how it compared batteries. Take the total investment — battery plus whatever inverter or control gear it needs to work — and divide by the usable storage in kilowatt-hours.

That single number is the only honest way to compare a battery quote, and it is the one most quotes avoid. It catches two things a headline price hides. First, usable capacity is not nameplate capacity: a battery advertised at 10 kWh may give you 9. Second, a DC-coupled battery is only a battery, and it needs a capable hybrid inverter to do anything — so a cheap battery beside an expensive inverter is not a cheap system.

Ask any installer for that figure, on the whole system rather than the box. If they will not calculate it, do it yourself: total price divided by usable kWh. Then compare.

What has changed since

Nearly everything. Powerwall 2 is retired and Powerwall 3 is the current product, with the inverter built in — which changes the cost-per-kWh sum, because you are no longer buying a separate one. Battery prices have moved, mostly down. And the rebate landscape is unrecognisable: there is now a federal battery programme and a Western Australian state scheme, neither of which existed when this page was written.

The result is that a 2023 comparison tells you nothing useful about a 2026 decision beyond the method. Use the method; ignore the numbers.

What we would say now

Most Perth homes should work out whether they need a battery before working out which one. A rebate makes a battery cheaper; it does not make a battery necessary. If your evening load is small because the house empties at eight and nobody is home until six, the payback is long whatever the discount.

Where a battery earns its keep is a different profile: heavy evening use, ducted aircon running past sunset, or a genuine dislike of losing power when the street goes down in a January storm. If that is you, the batteries we currently fit are the honest list, and a written price will be sized against your own bill.

Record: Tesla Powerwall rebate, $750, installations 11 August to 31 December 2023, claims by January 2024, matched by PSW Energy at the point of sale. Offer closed. Prices removed August 2026.
