PSW Explains

REC ProTrust warranty and installer certification

REC owners should check their installation records and confirm ProTrust cover with REC. Installer certification and labour cover were central to the warranty terms recorded when the panels were sold.

REC’s ProTrust warranty was not something you bought. It was something an installer activated, and only a certified one could. Installed by anyone else, the same panel carried materially less cover.

ProTrust warranty terms

  • PSW Energy no longer sells REC. This page is kept for people who already own it.
  • ProTrust activated on installation by an REC Certified Solar Professional, giving the full 25-year product and 25-year performance cover.
  • It also added labour cover, which most panel warranties do not include — the cost of getting someone back on the roof is usually the customer’s.
  • Without certification, the panel fell back to the standard product warranty.

Labour cover and installer certification

Labour is the part of a panel warranty that people discover too late. A replacement module is often free and the scaffolding, the electrician and the half-day are not. ProTrust covering that was the real value, and it turned on a credential the buyer usually never saw.

Support for existing REC owners

REC panels are not in our range. If yours need attention we will look at them, and the warranty position is worth confirming with REC directly using your install date and serial numbers.

We support panels we did not install and brands we no longer sell, through PSW Life Support. If you are replacing rather than repairing, what we currently fit is in the range.

Record: warranty terms as published at the time of writing in 2020. Confirm against your own documentation before relying on them.
