PSW Explains

Installation scheduling changes and customer options

Switchboard upgrades and difficult roofs were among the jobs allowed extra time in the earlier scheduling notice. Customers with affected bookings were to be contacted directly.

Update on installation timeframe refinements
In this article

Fewer than one in twenty scheduled installs now takes longer than originally booked. If yours is affected we contact you directly, and if you do not want to wait you can have your deposit back in full. No argument, no retention call.

Installation scheduling update

  • Under 5 per cent of scheduled installations are affected. If we have not contacted you, your date stands.
  • The jobs that take longer are backup and gateway configurations, switchboard upgrades, and difficult roofs or older buildings.
  • Nothing changes about price, performance or warranty. The extra time is on site, not on your invoice.
  • If a revised date does not suit you, the deposit is refundable in full.

Jobs needing extra time

Four kinds, and they have one thing in common: the work happens inside the switchboard or on an awkward roof, where rushing is how mistakes get made.

Backup and gateway configurations. Wiring a house so that nominated circuits keep running when the street goes down means separating those circuits, and the commissioning has to be tested rather than assumed. A backup that has never been proven under an actual disconnection is not a backup.

Switchboard upgrades. A lot of Perth switchboards were installed for a house with far less on it. Bringing one up to standard is real electrical work and it is not a task to squeeze into the tail of a solar install.

Difficult roofs. Multi-pitch, fragile sheeting, or restricted access. Extra time here is mostly about doing it safely.

Older or unconventional buildings. Where what is behind the wall is not what the plans say, which in this city is often.

Time for safe installation and testing

Because the alternative is a crew finishing under time pressure on the exact category of work where that goes wrong. Every one of the four above involves either live switchboard work or working at height, and both are the parts of this trade that hurt people.

We would rather tell you the truth in advance than hit the original date and hand you a system with a backup circuit nobody properly tested. The cost of that shows up years later, usually during the outage the backup was bought for.

Revised-date notifications

Our scheduling team contacts you directly, by email, SMS or phone, whichever you told us you prefer, with the revised window. You do not need to do anything or chase anyone. If you have not heard from us, your installation is on schedule.

Nothing else changes. Same price, same equipment, same warranty. If anything the compliance outcome is better, which is the point.

Deposit refunds

Then take the deposit back. In full, by completing the deposit return form, and we will not put you through a retention conversation to do it.

Worth knowing generally: Western Australia has the tightest deposit cap in the country and most people paying one have never been told it exists. What a deposit may legally be, and what it covers, is set out in the statutory deposit cap and what a deposit actually covers. Both are worth reading before you pay one to anybody.

Questions about a notification you have received? Reply directly to it. Everyone else, nothing is required unless we contact you.

PSW Editorial publishes practical guides to solar, batteries and home energy for Western Australian households. We explain how systems work, what to check before buying and what changes in policy or product support mean for your home. Our aim is to help you compare options, understand the trade-offs and ask useful questions before making a decision.
