PSW Explains

SMA PowerUP partner warranty terms from 2020

For an older SMA inverter, check whether your installation paperwork includes PowerUP partner cover. The warranty extension described in 2020 should be confirmed against your own documents.

An SMA inverter came with five years of standard cover, extended to ten when installed by a PowerUP partner. The installer channel determined the warranty term.

SMA warranty record

  • PSW Energy no longer sells SMA. This page is kept for people who already own it.
  • Standard cover was 5 years parts and labour, out of the box.
  • Installed by an SMA PowerUP partner, a further 5-year extension applied at no cost — 10 years in total.
  • Bought outside that channel, the same extension had to be purchased separately.

The PowerUP warranty extension

For an existing SMA system, check whether the installer held PowerUP status and whether the extension appears in your warranty records.

SMA fault and monitoring support

If you have an SMA inverter, the event-code reference is SMA event codes, and if the monitoring has dropped off there is an SMA reconnection guide.

We support inverters we did not install and brands we no longer sell, through PSW Life Support. If you are replacing rather than repairing, what we currently fit is in the range.

Record: warranty terms as published at the time of writing in 2020. Confirm against your own documentation before relying on them.
