Two 2023 SunWiz awards, and what they actually measured

SunWiz counted the 2023 year and handed over two awards in Sydney in March 2024: Top 5 in WA for solar capacity, Top 20 Australia-wide for Most Popular. Both certificates read Perth Solar Warehouse. Here is what each one counts, and what neither one tells you.

On 23 February 2024, SunWiz told the group it had qualified for two 2023 awards, and on 7 March they were handed over at a ceremony in Sydney. Both certificates read Perth Solar Warehouse. Nobody wrote a submission or pitched a panel — SunWiz counted installs and counted reviews, and that is the entire basis of the thing.

The SunWiz award record

  • Two 2023 SunWiz awards, presented March 2024: Top 5 in WA for combined residential and commercial solar capacity, and Top 20 Australia-wide in the Most Popular category.
  • The certificates carry Perth Solar Warehouse, the residential sibling brand. Same designers, same crews, same service desk, out of Bibra Lake.
  • The volume award counts kilowatts registered in the 2023 calendar year. It measures how much, not how well.
  • The Most Popular award is the one with a quality floor: SunWiz's entry, 228 customer reviews averaging 4.9 stars, spread across more than one platform.
  • Neither award tells you whether a company is right for your roof. Plenty of good WA installers were not in the room.

Capacity counted by the volume award

SunWiz has tracked every solar system installed in Australia since 2009. The Top Volume award is arithmetic on registry data — kilowatts registered against small-scale certificates plus large-scale projects, over one calendar year. For 2023 that arithmetic put the group in the top five companies in WA for combined residential and commercial capacity.

There is a limit worth naming. A volume ranking rewards the companies that install the most, and installing the most is not the same as installing well. It is a useful sanity check on scale and on whether a business will still be trading when your inverter faults in year eight. It is not a verdict on workmanship.

Most Popular award criteria

The second one is more interesting, because a company cannot buy its way into it by selling harder.

The response at the time was not a victory lap.

"We see room for improvement."

That still holds. The current position across every platform is on the reviews page, with the count and the average for each one, including the platform where the average is lowest.

Installer selection beyond awards

Award tables help you separate two companies you already like. They do not choose an installer for you, and they are not a shortlist.

Plenty of well-regarded WA installers will never appear at a ceremony like this, because entering the data takes effort a small business may sensibly decline. Their absence tells you nothing. What should move you is whether the company designed to your roof rather than a template, whether it will still be there for the add-on you want in four years, and whether anyone applied pressure to sign on the day. Pressure is the red flag, awards or not.

SunWiz has since counted the 2025 year, and four more badges came back to Neerabup — the 2026 SunWiz awards covers those. If you want a system priced rather than a trophy cabinet read out, ask for a written price.

SunWiz's own recognition page is here. The group announcement is on McKercher Corporation.
