Fronius Reserva Pro’s proposed Australian launch in October 2026

Site layout and backup requirements matter when assessing the announced Fronius Reserva Pro. Confirm Australian approval and pricing before including it in a system design.

Fronius confirmed to Australian partners on 18 August that the Reserva Pro is coming here. It is a modular high-voltage battery that scales from 12kWh to 128kWh inside a single system, and alongside a Verto Plus it charges and discharges at up to 28.3kW. Fronius puts availability at October 2026, subject to CEC approval, with launch pricing running to 31 March 2027.

Read that last clause carefully. Subject to CEC approval is not a formality you can quote around. A battery that is not on the approved product list cannot claim the federal battery rebate, and it cannot be used under the WA Residential Battery Scheme either. So if someone tells you in September to hold off your install because the Pro is nearly here, they are asking you to give up a rebate you can claim today for a product that has no approval date attached to it.

Capacity and backup requirements

128kWh is the ceiling, not a single cabinet. Independent Australian coverage puts the practical shape of it at roughly 20kWh on single phase (five modules) and roughly 32kWh on three phase (eight modules), with up to four stacks combined to reach the top figure. The towers sit side by side rather than back to back, at around 400mm deep, so the wall you were planning to use may not be the wall you end up using.

For most houses this is more battery than the load justifies. A four-bedroom home in Baldivis running 25kWh a day is not short of storage at 20kWh, it is short of the right evening profile. Buying 60kWh because the brochure says you can is how people end up with a payback measured in decades.

The number that changes what the system does is the backup figure. Independent coverage has the Pro stepping up to 50A per phase, with a 63A bypass mode following shortly after release. On three phase at 230V, 50A per phase is roughly 11.5kW available on each leg during an outage. That is a different conversation to the one we have been having with people whose three-phase battery will not carry a single-phase ducted air conditioner after dark. If you have read our piece on why that happens, this is the hardware answer to it, and it is the first Fronius product where the per-phase current is high enough to make whole-home backup a design choice rather than a hope.

Reserva and Reserva Pro warranty terms

Fronius states a 10-year warranty guaranteeing 75 per cent state of health at 10 years. Worth naming plainly: SolarQuotes reports the standard Reserva as warranted to at least 80 per cent of usable energy after 10 years. So the bigger, more capable battery carries the lower guaranteed floor of the two.

That is not a reason to avoid it. Higher-power cells worked harder across more cycles will degrade faster, and a manufacturer writing 75 per cent instead of 80 per cent is being honest about the duty cycle rather than optimistic about it. But if you are comparing a Reserva against a Reserva Pro on a spreadsheet, compare the warranted end state, not just the capacity.

Fronius says the design is European and the modules are manufactured in Europe. Third-party coverage is more specific, reporting that Pro manufacturing has moved back to Austria with European-hosted servers. For a household that is a nice-to-have. For a commercial client with a data-residency position, it is sometimes the deciding line in a tender.

Approval and availability checks

Compatibility is with the Fronius GEN24 Plus and the Verto Plus. If you are already on a GEN24 Plus and you are storage-limited, the Pro is worth waiting for and worth asking about. If you are buying a system from scratch this quarter, do not build the design around it.

Three things need to land before it is a real option on a quote: the CEC approval, its appearance on the approved product list that the rebates draw from, and Australian pricing that is more than a launch-window promise. Until then it is an announcement, and we will quote you on what we can install and what you can claim.

If you want us to model the Pro against a Reserva or a competing three-phase battery once approval comes through, tell us the load and we will run it properly. Get a quote and mention the Reserva Pro so it goes on the file.
